Hello all! The 2021 fishing season is here, and we at Western Rivers couldn't be happier. Since we are on the cusp of a new season, I thought that it would be a good idea to update you on what educational opportunities we are offering for this spring season. We offer classes for those who have never touched a fly rod before, to skill specific classes for those who are looking to sharpen their fishing skills, and we have private class options if you want more personal instruction.
While the COVID-19 situation is improving, we at Western Rivers are committed to keeping our customers and staff safe. In order to do so, we will be requiring our students to be masked when necessary, and we will have plenty of hand sanitizer for you to use. To sign up for any of these classes, the easiest way to do so is to give the shop a call, or stop on by the store if you're in the neighborhood. The shop phone number is: (801)-521-6424.
Here's a summary of what classes we have coming up in the next couple of months:
April Classes
- Soft Hackle Class: April 8th, 10th, 2021. Cost: $125
- This class is meant for anglers who have had at least a season of fishing under their belts, to those who have been fly-fishing for years. The soft hackle fly family has been around for literally centuries, and is a fun and effective way to fish wet flies. If you want to expand your fly-fishing skills, or learn a more simple, effective way to fish wet flies, this is a class you don't want to miss out on! This class consists of an evening in the city, and then will culminate with a trip to a local river to put these flies to use. For more information of the Soft Hackle Class, click here.
- Beginning Fly-Fishing Class: April 27th, 28th, 29th, May 1st, 2021. Cost: $230
- This class is meant for those who have never tried fly-fishing, to those who are in need of a comprehensive refresher that focuses on the essential gear and skills. If you have no gear, it will all be provided for you! For more info on the Beginning Fly-Fishing Classes, click here.
- Women's Intro to Fly-Fishing Class: April 23rd-24th, 2021. Cost: $200
This class is a unique blend of instruction and hands-on learning, taught by Nicole at Western Rivers Flyfisher. This course covers the basics of gear, knots, fly selection and casting. We will meet in the virtual classroom (via Zoom), and then convene on the river for a morning session of river time and applied learning. We will meet the following week for a 1 hour Q&A to answer follow-up questions. For more info on this class, and other Women's courses, click here.
May Classes
- WRF Euro/Indicator Nymph Class: May 7th, 9th, 2021. Cost: $125
This class is meant to dispel any and all myths about basic non-indicator techniques, and to give you a basic education on how to do it. A major part of the class will also focus on how to enhance/better your fishing success using strike indicators, and how/when to best use Dry-Dropper rigs to streamline and “round-out" your fishing abilities. Class consists of an evening at the shop, and then a half-day class on a local river. For more info on this class, click here.
