Used R.L. Winston Fiberglass 8'9" #8 Fly Rod.
A late San Francisco era Winston fiberglass rod, marked 8’9” #8 and built during the classic trophy-decal period (late 1960s to early 1970s).
This rod bears the name “Sid Eliason” hand-written on the shaft, reflecting its original ownership and history. Like many Winston rods of this era, it was built during a time when Northern California steelheaders, bass anglers, and Western trout fishermen relied on fiberglass for durability and smooth casting tempo.
Features include:
-
Trophy “Builders of Champions” decal
-
Brown translucent blank
-
Red wraps with gold tipping
-
Internal spigot ferrule
-
Correct period Winston tube
It has been fished and shows honest wear consistent with decades of use. Ferrules seat properly with visible gap remaining. The rod remains straight and structurally sound.
These longer San Francisco fiberglass rods were commonly used on larger Western rivers and for light steelhead duty.
A strong fishing example of Winston’s pre-Montana fiberglass production.
