Used R.L. Winston Bamboo Fly Rod 8 1/2' #7 *1947*
Built in 1947 during the San Francisco era of R.L. Winston Rod Company, this rod dates squarely to the Robert Stoner period, when Winston rods were still being crafted in San Francisco.
The Stoner era (1940s–1960s) is known for refined, progressive tapers and elegant finishing work that defined Winston’s West Coast identity.
Serial number 6392.
This rod has been fished and enjoyed over the decades. It was refinished and had a tip replaced in the 1970s, making it a highly fishable example rather than an untouched collector specimen. All sections are full length. Ferrules are secure. The cane presents well with minor signs of use.
The 8½’ taper offers smooth, progressive power suited for larger trout or steel head rivers and classic Western fishing.
Comes with a unmarked metal tub and later dating sock (not original to build).
A wonderful opportunity to own a true Stoner-era San Francisco Winston, a rod built during one of the most formative periods in the company’s history.
