Playa Blanca, Mexico

playa blanca, mexico

The smaller and quieter Playa Blanca is just 10 miles south of Casa Blanca on Punta Pajaros offering unrivaled access to world class flats fishery, Espiritu Santo Bay. Also set deep within the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, this is a quiet and remote location is the perfect jumping off point for chasing Permit, Bonefish and Tarpon and an isolated and lightly pressured flats frontier. Return to a spacious and luxurious lodge for ultimate relaxation; the perfect balance to a long day on the water

fishing

Espiritu Santo Bay is equally rich and diverse though roughly half the size of Ascension Bay to the north, and there is no better access point to this remote fishery than Playa Blanca. Look for feeding Permit and Bonefish at the bocas to multiple river systems that enter the bay or venture back in to the mangroves that line these rivers to hunt for Tarpon and Snook. Guests will fish from 16-foot Dolphin Super-Skiffs though the bay is edged by hard sand flats offering opportunities to wade-fish for tailing Bonefish and Permit. Runs from the lodge can range from fifteen minutes to over an hour depending on what you want to chase, conditions and guests desires. The Santa Rosa Lagoon system west of Ascension Bay also offers guests access to vast lagoon systems teaming with flats species, bird life and beautiful backcountry scenery. While this is primarily a fishing focused destination, non-fishing activities inclue snorkling and kayaking the local waters, hiking and biking around the seemingly endless private beaches and coves, relaxation and massage or touring the Mayan ruins right there on the island!

accomodations

Compared to the larger sister-lodge to the north, Playa Blanca only offers seven duplex cabanas making this a truly quiet and private lodge experience. Each of the seven duplex cabanas are spread between the palms around the beach and equipped with private bathrooms. The ocean-front rooms take advantage of the sea breeze, and the set back rooms are equipped with air conditioning. In addition to the covered porch and roof-top hangouts at the main lodge, the campus is sprinkled with palapas, hammocks and areas for relaxing and resting. The cuisine at Playa Blanca is some of the best in the region and prepared fresh daily from scratch featuring three-course dinners off of the rotating menu by the head chef who has worked for the lodge since 2001. Breakfasts are made to order and lunch is prepared from rotating selections of sandwich makings, salads, fish, fruits and more.
