This beginner fly tying course is for those with as little as zero fly tying experience though can also benefit those with limited experience. Throughout this one evening class students can expect to become acquainted with their vise, tools and materials before applying them to a fly pattern. One of the most recognizable names in fly fishing, the Wooly Bugger is not only one of the most productive and versatile fly patterns but also utilizes core fly-tying techniques such as wrapping thread, "palmering" hackle, whip finishing and more!
This intermediate/advanced fly tying course is for those who want to learn some classic and effective fly patterns for targeting species such as Bonefish, Tarpon, and Permit. We'll go through techniques and materials commonly used in crafting shrimp, crab, and baitfish patterns that can be applied in different sizes and colors depending on where you're fishing and when you're going there! This is an intermediate course and students should be comfortable with basic tying techniques, material control and whip finishing.
This intermediate tying course will focus on the oldest and most versatile fly family in fly-fishing, and the patterns that influenced many "modern" flies we fish today. While soft hackles are considered to be simple, it is important to have good proportions, hackle selection, and good hackle technique in order to make flies that stand the test of time, and catch fish. This is an intermediate course and students should be comfortable with basic tying techniques, material control and whip finishing in order to sign-up.
In this class students will learn how to tie three styles of traditional steelhead patterns. We'll discuss the history of the patterns. We'll discuss the history of the patterns, possible variations, and different tying styles, with a focus on specific techniques to make these flies easier and faster to tie. The goal of this class is to give you the confidence and skills needed to attempt any traditional Steelhead pattern. The techniques learned in this class will directly translate to other areas of your fly tying. Fly styles covered: traditional harrowing, muddler, strip/feather wing. Students should be comfortable with fly tying techniques & materials with an emphasis on proportion control.
This intermediate/advanced fly tying course is for those who want to enhance their dry-fly tying for picky fish and match-the-hatch scenarios. Think mayfly spinners & cripples, spent caddis, CDC, Biots and otherwise! This is an intermediate course and students should be comfortable with basic tying techniques, material control and whip finishing.
This beginner level class will walk students through a few simple and effective fly patterns to fish consistently on the lakes and streams off of Mirror Lake Highway and in the High Uinta Mountains all over. Think ants, foam beetles & small leech patterns! This is a beginner level course and students should be fairly comfortable with basic techniques and able to whip finish.
