Beginning Fly Fishing Class

Beginning Fly Fishing Class

What better way to begin your foray in to the world of fly fishing than a 3-session hands on class with our instructor Nick Teynor, who has been fishing in the state for his whole life and teaching at Western Rivers for over two decades!

This class is held over two weekday evenings and a Saturday morning. The first two evening sessions will cover equipment, techniques, flies, knots and casting. Your final class will be held on a local stream. There you will learn about reading water, fly presentation, and the food items trout key upon so you can select appropriate flies before putting your new found skills to the test. Our goal is to not only leave you with a great foundation but to help you enjoy the many great aspects of fishing with a fly where ever you may go or how much time you may have.

Keep in mind that for many of you this will be your first foray into fly-fishing. You will make mistakes, it is part of the learning process. Come in expecting to be challenged, have fun, and laugh when you fail. It makes it much easier to succeed, and if that doesn't work for you, look around. The scenery is gorgeous, and you are in the middle of it.

Day 1: 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM at Western Rivers. We will go over essential gear and knots, how to pick and effective fly the wonderful insects our fisheries depend on to survive. You will need to make sure to bring a pen and pad of paper for notes.
