Fly-fishing for steelhead isn't for everyone. For those of us who are drawn to these fish and their rivers, we're obsessed by them. Since first fishing with Frontier Farwest on the Bulkley River in central British Columbia over 30 years ago a lot has changed in the operation and in a good way. Today, guests will have the opportunity to fish both the Morice and the Bulkley River during their visit. Between these two rivers are incredible options and a very diverse steelhead fly-fishing experience, that's truly rival by no one else.01-b-c-steelhead-2105-5.jpg

Located on the banks of one of British Columbia's more prolific rivers, the Bulkley River, your hosts Derek and Andrea of Frontier Farwest Lodge offer a unique and unparalleled experience. During your week of swinging flies for steelhead, your adventure will have you fishing from two lodge facilities on two  rivers, plus the option to explore the Bulkley Rivers more scenic and remote canyons when conditions are right. And, if the Bulkley or Morice River aren't fishing well, there is the option of hiring a helicopter to  to whisk you off to the Babine, Copper or Skeena Rivers.  Typically, the lodge offers so many options it's rare you'll fish the same piece of water twice, even if you don't take a helicopter ride during your stay.  In our experience, that's unusual, and what sets Frontier Farwest apart from other steelhead lodges.

The main lodge is simply spectacular. It and your private cabin are located on the banks of the Bulkley River. A portion of your time will be spent in this spacious and comfortable lodge, enjoying world class food, a private cabin and comfort second to none should Fall elements dampen your spirits.

In addition to their main lodge, you'll also fish the more remote Morice River, and stay in one of the areas oldest and cozy lodge facilities, the Morice River Lodge. Not only will you find steelhead in the Morice, but this river in it's upper reaches is also home to the elusive grizzly and wolf. Should you be lucky, you might encounter one of these magnificent animals.  Those encounters and their presence only adds to your steelheading adventure.

In 2010, Frontier Farwest expanded their operations and purchased this little slice of heaven, literally sitting on the banks of the upper Morice. Due to it's location you'll have the opportunity to fish one of the finest dry fly steelhead rivers in the world.  If you've never caught one of these spectacular fish on a waking dry fly, it is an experience you'll remember for a lifetime.  And, when conditions are right, it's a very reasonable feat.  At the end of the day, you'll return to your cabin, warmed by a wood burning stove, and enjoy home cooked meals that will more than satisfy any appetite.

Both the Bulkley and Morice River are incredible rivers and your stay at each of these outstanding and unique facilities will occur without any interruption in your fishing.  We feel there is no other steelhead lodge that offers their clients such and array of incredible options, and given how challenging these fish are that bodes well for your success. steelhead-ss-001-108-.jpg
